Flight Training

Delta Air Lines delivers world-class flight training through its flagship Training Center in Atlanta (ATL), with a new Salt Lake City (SLC) facility opening in 2025 to support Continuing Qualification (CQ). From day one, new hire pilots experience one of the most advanced and well-resourced training programs in the industry, supported by ALPA’s negotiated training provisions and a consistent pipeline of new fleet types.

Delta covers hotel accommodations and uniforms for all new hire pilots throughout training, and instruction is conducted using iPad Pro devices across a digital-first curriculum. The training environment emphasizes operational excellence, procedural discipline, and cross-fleet familiarity, reflecting the airline’s diverse and growing fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft—including the A220, A321neo, A330-900neo, A350, B737, B757, and B767.

New hires are paid at entry-level rates with a 2:30 daily minimum until IOE completion. Upon successful completion, pilots join active line operations and transition into one of Delta’s domestic or international crew bases, where continued support and advancement opportunities are robust.

Delta’s training and safety culture benefits from decades of operational legacy, cutting-edge technology, and a collaborative relationship with its union. With nearly 6000 pilots hired post-COVID and a monthly hiring pace of 50–100 pilots, Delta’s flight training program is a cornerstone of its continued leadership in U.S. and global aviation.

PAY SCALE (Hourly)

Hiring

Delta Air Lines has hired approximately 500 pilots so far in 2025, but is not currently hiring. The airline has paused new pilot hiring and plans to reassess its staffing needs in the fall. Since the COVID-19 recovery, Delta has hired around 6,000 pilots, supporting its significant fleet growth and operational expansion. While hiring is currently on hold, Delta continues to offer industry-leading pay, profit-sharing incentives, and a structured career progression path for future candidates—including upgrades to captain and opportunities to fly international long-haul routes.

New hire pilots at Delta receive company-paid hotels throughout all training and are provided with paid uniforms as part of the onboarding process. A Delta pilot uniform refresh is also currently underway. Training is conducted at the Primary Pilot Training Center in Atlanta, with the new Salt Lake City Training Facility opening in 2025 for Continuing Qualification (CQ) training.

Delta pilots benefit from a strong financial position, with past profit-sharing payments reaching 16.6% in 2019, 14.0% in 2018, and 15.1% in 2017. Post-COVID, profit-sharing payments were 10.4% in 2024 and 5.6% in 2023. With a commitment to operational excellence, pilot career development, and ongoing fleet expansion, Delta remains a top choice for aviators seeking stability and long-term growth.
