Flight Training

  • Training is primarily conducted at Alaska Airlines’ Flight Training Center located in Seattle, Washington. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art simulators and classrooms to provide a conducive learning environment.
  • New hire training at Alaska Airlines encompasses several key phases:

    • Ground School: An intensive classroom-based curriculum covering company policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), aircraft systems, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).

    • Simulator Training: Hands-on sessions in full-motion flight simulators, focusing on normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures specific to the Boeing 737 fleet.

    • Line-Oriented Flight Training (LOFT): Scenario-based training that simulates real-world flight operations to enhance decision-making and crew resource management skills.

    • Initial Operating Experience (IOE): Supervised flights with a Line Check Airman (LCA) to apply training in actual flight operations and ensure readiness for unsupervised line flying.

    • Final Evaluation: A comprehensive checkride assessing proficiency in all aspects of flight operations before being released to line flying.

  • Alaska Airlines is also pioneering the use of Virtual Reality (VR) technology in pilot training. In April 2025, the airline partnered with Loft Dynamics to co-develop the world’s first Boeing 737 VR simulators. These VR simulators aim to enhance training realism and accessibility across various training bases.
